Almost 3,000 Tennesseans Use Web to Renew or Update Their Driver License in First Month
Governor Sundquist Lauds Results of First Month of Internet Use
NASHVILLE - (November 16, 2000) - Just 30 days ago, Tennesseans had to visit their local driver station to renew or update their license. Since October 16th, citizens can go online to complete their business. And, it appears they're headed there in droves.
In the first 30 days of operation, 795 citizens have renewed their driver license online. In addition, 2,087 Tennesseans have used the Internet to update their address information. "I am thrilled with the results," stated Governor Sundquist. "Tennesseans are now able to renew their driver licenses with increased convenience and greater speed. This is just the first step in bringing more services online. I am confident, we will set the standard by creating a more efficient and effective state government."
Statistics gathered on the use of the application paint an interesting picture. The application has been most widely used by those individuals aged 30 to 39, accounting for 846 transactions or 29%. Those aged 20 - 29 and 40 - 49 are a close second, at 22% and 25% relatively. The oldest individual to use the application was 87, while the youngest was 15.
The majority of Tennesseans are using the Driver License Renewal application during the week (88%), with Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday accounting for 66% of total use. 38% of Tennesseans are going online to renew their license or change their address information in traditionally non-business hours (5:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m.). The cities of Collierville, Cordova and Nashville recorded as the top three users.
"In addition to giving Tennesseans more opportunities to renew their license, we've also made it easier. In just four easy steps and about 5 minutes of time, citizens can renew their license online at www.TennesseeAnytime.org," stated Governor Sundquist. "I look forward to the time when government is open for business 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year."
