This registry was created by Public Chapter 18 of the 2005 General Assembly, the Meth-Free Tennessee Act of 2005. Tennessee Code Annotated Sec. 39-17-436 now requires the registry of any person convicted after March 30, 2005 of a meth-related violation of TCA 39-17-417 (manufacture of methamphetamine) or 39-17-435 (initiation of methamphetamine manufacture). At this time, the TBI will only register persons convicted of a substantive violation of either statute; persons convicted on conspiracy, attempt, and facilitation charges related to the above statutes will not be registered.

The information contained in the registry is provided to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation by the office of the clerks of court in each county.
