Governor Phil Bredesen and Connected Tennessee’s Computers 4 Kids program today presented 183 deserving foster children in the Davidson County and Mid-Cumberland region with new laptop computers. The recipients were high school aged children from 13 counties recommended by the Department of Children’s Services. Computers 4 Kids is an innovative program designed to positively impact the future of children in need in Tennessee by awarding computers to kids and families facing economic challenges, in the foster care system or struggling with behavioral disorders and other issues.
“Connected Tennessee’s Computers 4 Kids program is impacting the lives of Tennessee children by placing technology in the hands of deserving young people who would not otherwise have this access," said Bredesen. "It's gratifying to know that more than 800 children and families statewide have already benefitted from Computers 4 Kids, which is opening up a world of opportunities to some of our state's citizens who need and appreciate it most."
Connected Tennessee is a non-profit organization that develops and implements strategies for technology deployment, use and literacy in Tennessee. Connected Tennessee is coordinating the Computers 4 Kids project with the State of Tennessee, the Department of Children’s Services and the Department of Human Services. The innovative Computers 4 Kids project, designed to positively impact the future of children in Tennessee, will award 1,000 computers per year over a three year period to children in need.
