Governor Bredesen knows safe communities are vital to maintaining a high quality of life in Tennessee. He’s working with local law enforcement and state agencies to attack crime and ensure the safety and well being of all Tennesseans. Top priorities include:
|
Attacking methamphetamine manufacturing and abuse. Governor Bredesen believes meth is one of the most serious threats facing rural, urban and suburban Tennessee. The Governor’s comprehensive Meth-Free Tennessee Act of 2005 makes several improvements in the law, including placing limits on the sale of products used to manufacture the deadly drug. |

Maintaining a strong homeland security plan. In one of his first acts upon taking office, Governor Bredesen elevated the Office of Homeland Security to a cabinet-level post. Since then, the office has developed a comprehensive plan for coordinating emergency services and investigative efforts to help prevent terrorism. The State pushes down to local governments more than 80% of the federal homeland security funding it receives. |

Supporting the death penalty. Governor Bredesen believes alleged criminals are entitled to due process under the law and he supports lawful executions to punish the most violent offenders. |
