Communications
The Communications Department oversees and coordinates media coverage and interaction for the Governor. The department is also responsible for speech writing and research. The intern is given responsibility in virtually all areas of the department. From drafting releases to organizing media availabilities and related events, the intern is fully immersed in the daily operations of the department.
Constituent Services
The Constituent Services Department responds to the Governor's mail, e-mail, and phone calls from the public. The staff also processes public requests for proclamations, Governor's awards and certificates, photo/autograph/commemorative flag requests, and grant endorsements. Intern duties include coordinating federal and local issue responses, answering constituent calls, processing requests, assisting staff with mailing projects, and utilizing a comprehensive correspondence tracking system.
Legislative
The Governor's legislative team works as a liaison between state agencies, the Governor, and members of the Tennessee General Assembly to analyze and monitor all legislation filed during a legislative session. During the spring semester, legislative interns will track legislation, generate reports for staff, attend and observe legislative meetings/floor sessions, maintain and organize files, interact with legislators and liaisons throughout state government, and assist staff with miscellaneous office duties. Duties for the summer and fall semesters vary.
Scheduling
The Scheduling Department coordinates all of the Governor's public and private events. The scheduling intern should be organized, detail-oriented, and possess strong communication skills. The intern will process scheduling requests, communicate with the public regarding the Governor's schedule, gather information for events, and assist with assigning surrogates to attend events on behalf of the Governor.
