Dr. Reginald Coopwood, M.D., FACS

CEO, Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority

Dr. Reginald Coopwood is the Chief Executive Officer of the Metropolitan Nashville Hospital Authority -- Nashville General Hospital at Meharry, Bordeaux Long Term Care and Knowles Home Assisted Living & Adult Day Services.  A board certified surgeon, Dr. Coopwood continues as Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and Associate Professor of Surgery at Meharry Medical College.

Dr. Coopwood currently serves on the board of the National Public Health and Hospital Institute (NPHHI), Nashville Health Care Council and the Tennessee Court Appointed Special Advocate Association.  Previously he was a member of the Board of Trustees for Meharry Medical College and the Comprehensive Care Center.  Dr. Coopwood is a 2005 graduate of Leadership Nashville and was named as a Fellow to the Health Care Solutions Group co-founded by Vanderbilt University and the Nashville Healthcare Council. He is a member of the Nashville Downtown Rotary Club where he chaired the Organ Donation Committee.

 

In October 2005, Dr. Coopwood was awarded the Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center’s Dr. Archie Powell Excellence in Health Award.  Dr. Coopwood has been named to the Nashville Business Journal’s Top 100 in Healthcare for 2005 & 2006 and in 2007 was recognized by the Tennessee Business Magazine as one of Tennessee’s Healthcare Top 25 in 2007.

 

He is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, American College of Physician Executives, a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, and belongs to the R.F. Boyd Medical Society and National Medical Association.

 

Dr. Coopwood received a Bachelor of General Studies: Biology, Chemistry, and Business Administration from Oakwood College and his Doctorate of Medicine from Meharry Medical College. In 2000, he became the first appointed Chief Medical Officer for Nashville General Hospital at Meharry; a position he held until his selection as Chief Executive Officer in 2005. 

 

Dr. Coopwood and his wife Erica live in Brentwood, Tennessee.  They have 3 sons and a daughter.
